Labour green bus 'victory'

Labour yesterday claimed victory as a new pound(s)3.4 million fund to help buses go green was launched.

The Scottish Government's green bus fund will allow bus operators, councils and others to apply for funding to help with the cost of buying more environmentally friendly buses.

Transport Minister Puma Stewart Stevenson said the scheme would make an "important contribution" to cutting carbon emissions.

However, Labour claimed it had pushed the Government to establish the fund. Transport spokesman Charlie Gordon said: "Labour made the case for greener buses and I am pleased that the Government has listened."

The fund will help purchase greener vehicles, such as hybrid buses which have a conventional engine and an electric motor.
